I wrote the following essay a couple of weeks ago just to gather my thoughts, trying to figure out how I would endure or survive another Trump presidency.

I am a different person this week now that we have Kamala Harris running for president and knowing what a bright, decent, caring person she is, and  Joe Biden’s speech last night about his decision was so moving.

How can you look at Donald Trump and not see the difference in the two men?  To me it is baffling.

July 15, approximately:

I am sad, and I have been for a while, but today is the topper.

Joe Biden is stepping down from the presidency, and maybe it’s a good idea, but we don’t give people a chance, do we.

It all started with that damned debate.  He stumbled, while his opponent lied and exaggerated throughout, but the media focused on President Biden’s stumble, ignoring for the most part his opponent’s exaggerations and flat-out lies.

I have friends and acquaintances who support Mr. Trump.  It’s beyond my comprehension why they do so.  Some are young, some are old.  What are they seeing that I am not.

This is the history of Mr. Trump:

He has been a physical abuser of women, proven in court.

I’m almost sure he’s a pedophile.  Remember his good buddy Jeffrey Epstein and his support of Ghislaine Maxwell, the “finder” of so many young women for Jeffrey.  “I wish her well,” said Donald Trump when she faced prosecution.

I heard him say this:  “Jeffrey likes them young, and frankly so do I.”

He has ridiculed the disabled, pushing them out of his way.

He has dishonored veterans and the families of dead veterans who gave their lives for this country, insulting Gold Star parents and families.

He said he did not admire John McCain because he was captured.  Mr. McCain was in a Vietcong prison for five years with wounds and broken bones not attended to, rendering him severely disabled for the rest of his life.

After a woman came up to him at a gathering to say she remembered dating him years before, he pushed her into the swimming pool saying that was impossible because she “…was not my type.”  That’s his standard comment whenever a woman accuses him of one thing or another.  “I couldn’t possibly have done that because you’re not my type”  intimating that a woman is unattractive.

When someone complimented him on his daughter, he agreed and said he would hit on her if she weren’t his daughter.

He inherited over $400 million from his father and lost most of it almost immediately

Lied about his income

Bankrupted several times

Doesn’t re-pay his debts

Cheats on his taxes

Established a private college and bilked hundreds of students out of their money.

He is convicted on 34 counts of fraud

After the Charlottesville riots “Unite the Right” where the white supremacists displayed Confederate flags and protested the removal of a statue of Robert E Lee and where one of them plowed through the crowd, killing one woman who was a counter-protester and injuring 35 others he said, “There are good people on both sides.”  Was that okay with you?

Stole documents from the White House and stored them haphazardly in his bathroom  and other rooms at Mira Lago.  Those were top-secret documents that could compromise the safety of the people of the  United States.  One wonders what he would have done with them or to whom he would have given them.  I have some idea.  In fact, he may have already given them to our enemies.  On the other hand, it could have been an ego-trip:  “Look what I’ve got.”

Kissed the asses of President Putin and Kim Jung Un – two leaders who despise America and have threatened us with nuclear weapons.  He cozied up with them and has expressed his admiration for them.  I remember what he said about Kim Jung Un – Said with admiration, “He took over his country as a very young man – not an easy task.”  Yes, he took over the country after murdering a few relatives who might have preceded him to the office.

Said of Putin on invading Ukraine:  “He’s very smart about how he did this.”

Wants to take us out of NATO, thereby damaging or endangering our allies overseas.

I’m not sure if it’s the Evangelical Christians who want us to return to an all-white, Christian country or the right-wing extremists who have concocted Project 2025.  Maybe they’re one in the same.

They would do away with Homeland Security, the Department of Education, giving tax money to private religious schools, make gay marriage illegal once again and, of course, their favorite issue  — abortion – made illegal under any circumstances.  You should check out this 900-page plus document.

Of course, Trump is distancing himself from this document and says he doesn’t know much about it, which may be true.  He is, after all, a puppet of the extreme right, and he’s far too stupid to understand it or have input to it.  But, if it’s the Republican platform, why isn’t he touting it?  Because he can only talk about personalities, insulting and attacking his opponents with ridiculous accusations.

Some believe Trump has been sent by God and/or Jesus Christ to save us.  Have they not read anything about Jesus?

I’m eighty-one years old.  Can I survive a Trump presidency?  I lose sleep at night, and my stomach roils at the sight of him or hearing what he is espousing.

By the way, have you noticed his dementia, or the way he stumbles around?

Take a look and give a listen.  He’s a clumsy, egomaniacal monster who has not done a kind thing in his entire life.  Do you really want him to be our president?

The End

  1. Agree with it all. It’s actually baffeling that he has so many followers. I’m feeling hopeful and that’s a good thing. Many young voters registered after Kamala declared her candidacy. On the other hand, what country would we choose if the Antichrist is elected?

  2. love this. Sounds like a well-written op-ed from a national publication. Obviously well-researched, too. Proud of you. You know I agree with every word you say 👏👏👏
