THE GITWH

I don’t often write directly on my blog, but today it almost seemed necessary because I’m so upset.

I heard the guy in the White House (GITWH) praising the North Korean guy (NKG).  Once a week I proclaim, “This is it!  This is the final straw!  HE HAS TO GO!”

What he said was something about NKG taking over his country with such poise and/or grace.  “Not every 26-year-old can handle something like that like he did.”   From Chubby Rocket Man to great leader.  Praise for a monster from a monster.

Then I walked into the living room this morning and heard more about the babies and toddlers being separated from their parents, and I started to cry.

It didn’t help that I finished The Underground Railroad (Colson Whitehead) last night.  I yelled out “No!”  at yet another death of another slave.  Why was I still able to be surprised at the abject cruelty white people perpetrated upon black people?  This should be in all caps, but I don’t have the energy for it.

I woke up too early this morning, and it was the first thing on my mind.

It also did not help that last week I finished Jodi Piccoult’s book, The Storytellers.  This one about the holocaust.  Really, God?

In my heart I know that I cannot fully know, or pretend to know, how African-Americans or Jews feel in their hearts, but I feel obligated to do something.  What?   Maybe just “say” something.

I think the most difficult thing to do in this life is to understand man’s inhumanity to man.

Jews, African-Americans, babies separated from their mothers while they are seeking safety for them. The list could go on for many more pages and letters and words, but it seems so futile.

Even this writing seems inadequate and too dramatic?  If so, I apologize.  I just needed to say something.

I love Trevor Noah’s take on current affairs, or Sarah Silverman’s, or Stephen Colbert’s.  It’s the only way I can deal at all.  With their comedy, they put it in bold perspective, and we can collectively chuckle while at the same time saying to ourselves, WTF??

The End

  1. Everything is political. Freedom is political. Every day of our lives we are living at the behest of things that are political. It’s not enough to simply blame. Citizenship is a very big deal. Our democracy should not be taken for granted because in fact it is not guaranteed. You could die if this goes too far. You can ignore it if you want but it is not guaranteed. We must be mature, we must wake up and know what democracy means in this country and decide if we want to watch it die or respond to what’s happening. If you don’t know what the Bill of Rights is then you don’t notice when it is under assault. We must search out why these things are no longer taught. Time to find out if keeping us ignorant is part of a dominance plan. It’s not enough to show up only after the tragedies occur. We must change our karma ourselves. The karma of this country is manifesting like it is and only we can change it. We are all at the affect of it whether we are “good People” in our own personal lives or not. The affect is the same nationwide. Who are the people we must be to get through this time. First, we must withdraw the blame. Demonizing Trump can only work against us and it already is. No spiritual teaching gives us a pass on ignoring the suffering of other sentient beings. There is nothing spiritual about ignoring what’s happening by saying it’s so toxic I can’t deal with it. We don’t have time to work on our depression, we must step up for our country as the people in Selma did, as the suffragettes did. We’ve become lazy and that has lost us too much already. We can’t be ambivalent about the history of America and call ourselves Americans. If you are upset know that you are mentally healthy. You are not a sociopath. As we care about the children we express our deep humanity. Children are not chattel. They are just as human as adults. As MLK said we must have tough minds and tender hearts. We must deal with the present darkness showing up in our collective hearts and in the DNA of the US. Let’s not be the first generation to wimp out on doing what it takes when this is in our midst. Don’t look away. Stay awake with me said Jesus at Gethsemane. Investigate the facts and speak out about the fake propaganda on both sides. Authoritarianism needs to be spoken against no matter who expresses it. Return the soul to your own party whether Democratic or Republican. It’s a process not a quick fix. When you show up for problems not your own then your own problems disappear. Love, pray and kick ass. Taken from Marianne Williamson’s talk.

    1. Dear Pat, Thank you for forwarding this from Marianne W.  I will keep and refer back to it as often as I can.   It inspired  me to make a donation, tho’ small, to The Cause — this time to the charities that take care of the children at the border.  In this case, what they need, live, are attorneys, paralegals, etc. People that can represent these parents and kids in court, if need be. I will endeavor to look for other meaningful steps.  It’s a little scary to think about “public” action, but I feel that’s coming up for me.  Any suggestions?  I’m not turning my back on the issue.  It’s just that sometimes it’s too much for my feeble mind to even contemplate.  Losing sleep.
